In this fast paced world, we have a tendency to make decisions on the fly. In most cases we give automated answers. For instance, your friend asks you if you will pray for them and you give an automated “Yes”… but we all know that it more than likely won’t happen. Then later you will reflect on the situation and say “Hey, I’ve been praying for you” when you haven’t even thought about it until just then.
The scary thing is that these automated decisions are also made on a much larger scale and may have huge impacts if things go array. They can range from driving intoxicated to leaving a new-born baby in a running car because “You’ll be right back”. Some times nothing happens in these decisions, in other cases the unexpected occurs and we are left with excuses. “But, it was only 10 minutes”, or “I only had 3 beers”. Truth be told, when it comes down to it excuses are only a backup plan to cover ourselves in case the decision backfires.
We do this with the Lord every single day. The norm is to just wake up and go along with the day. Did you ask God anything about your day today? Did you make sure that the decision that you just made was a decision that he would honor? I know how it is, we have plans. We fit God comfortably into those plans and keep him on reserve just as much as we put our excuses on reserve. He is our back up plan, “If things get messy, God will get me out”.
Why have we done this to our Lord? The God who made the heavens and the earth, saved us from death and the grave get’s the shaft, all because we want to be Lord of our lives? Doesn’t that story sound familiar?
Isaiah 14:13 You said in your heart,
“I will ascend to the heavens;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of MountZaphon.
Didn’t the devil do the very same thing?
Right now is the moment to stop and think… decide a non automated decision to make him Lord of your life and step off of the throne, falling to your knees in submission and repentance.
